Core Aeration

Core aeration is a critical step to a healthy lawn.  Your turf needs air, water, and nutrients to be healthy.  Aerating will help accomplish this.  Here are 5 benefits for lawn aeration:

  1. Relieves soil compaction - The soil in your lawn compacts over time.  This is normal wear and tear on your turf from regular traffic over the lawn.  Aerating relieves the compaction that leads to dead roots and poor looking turf.

  2. Increases nutrients - Temoving cores through aeration allow air, water and nutrients to more easily make contact and be absorbed in the soil.

  3. Results in thicker lawn - Aeration will stimulate growth and root development.  Additionally, it is beneficial to Overseed the turf following a core aeration.

  4. Thatch management - Thatch is the layer of dead grass that accumulates on your lawn.  The more thatch, the thicker this layer becomes making it more difficult for air, water, and nutrients to penetrate to the soil.  In Utah, most of our grass is a blend of Kentucky Blue and Fescue.  These grasses produce a lot of thatch.  Aeration will help minimize thatch accumulation.

  5. Minimizes water runoff - The more compact the soil is the more runoff there will be.  Minimizing runoff helps conserve overall water usage.

Contact   us today to discuss your lawn needs and how a core aeration can lead to your best lawn yet.  We provide this service from March-May and again from September-November.  While it is not necessary to aerate 2x per year, it may be beneficial for your turf if it is heavily trafficked.

Power-raking

Here, along the Wasatch Front, it is common to have a Kentucky Blue/Fescue blend of grass.  These grasses produce a lot of thatch.  Thatch builds up on the turf to create a thick barrier that impedes water, air, and nutrients from penetrating to the soil and into the turf's root systems. Power-raking is a service to remove the thatch to allow better penetration for these elements.  Why power-rake? Here are 3 benefits for power-raking:

  1. Thatch Removal - If the thatch compaction on your lawn is too thick (more than 1/4-1/2 inch), air, water, and nutrients will not be able to penetrate through to the root systems to sustain health and promote growth.

  2. Snow mold/dead grass - Power-raking through areas of snow mold or dead grass is helpful to clear the area in preparation for repair.

  3. Overseeding preparation - Turf thrives from overseeding in the early spring and/or fall.  Power-raking just before overseeding is the best preparation.  This will allow seed to make contact with the soil and stimulate new growth for the turf

Power-raking can thoroughly benefit your turf.  Contact   us to discuss how this service can benefit your turf.  We provide this service in the spring and fall.  Depending on the yard, it is recommended to power-rake every 1-2 years.
